It is comforting that the campaign for Cuomo's reelection as governor has both motivated/provided focus for some of the most alarming issues right now. As the article discusses, Cuomo and his colleague, NJ governor Chris Christie, have acknowledged the heightened tensions between the US and terrorist organizations. Since the New York metropolitan area is visibly a target for terrorist activity, Cuomo and Christie have wisely decided to increase security measures, primarily on public transport. It's a logical plan, considering the sheer number of regular commuters who use the services of the MTA, LIRR, Metro-North, and such popular transportation companies. As the current governor, Cuomo certainly benefits from advantages his opponent, Republican Robert Astorino, simply doesn't have, which include the ability to make such plans and address significant concerns.

  1. Esecially with ISIS raising concerns, the governor's response to work with Governor Christie to increase the safety measures taken to protect public transportation would boost his approval rating. Astorino can't do much to knock Cuomo down a few pegs.

  2. In an effort to increase security measures for public transport in a city so reliant on it in the first place, Andrew Cuomo will significantly expand his chances in a race for which powers he already contains. Although Rob Astorino might say he will work on public transport security, he does not hold the same advantages as the man who can already alter and provide for more security along these lines. This just might be detrimental to Astorino's campaign.
