Andrew Cuomo Announces Random Ebola Drills On New York Subway

This is one of the best decisions I believe that Governor Andrew Cuomo can make regarding the protection of people from the Ebola virus. Right now more people are infected with the fear of catching Ebola than with Ebola because a lot of people feel that they might be unprepared for what happens if someone around them has Ebola. This drill will teach people how to react if someone near them has Ebola. This is extremely important because this will set in place procedures so that people do not feel like they are unprepared and these drills will also serve as practice runs in order to help people practice in case there is an actual Ebola outbreak in New York.
However, a major set back to this fantastic idea is that it may cause an initial panicking reaction by the people in the subway. This short term issue is offset by the skills that the people involved will learn. It is extremely important to learn these procedures even if a Ebola outbreak does not occur because it is better to be safe than to be sorry. This will really get more people to notice that the Governor is trying to protect the people of New York and this may bring him more votes.

  1. This is just another example of the pointless panic that pervades our society at the mention of Ebola. There have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in the state so far, so the likelihood of there being an ebola outbreak in this state is very low. Conducting these drills is a waste of taxpayer resources and only promotes this unnecessary panic.

  2. I agree with Rebecca, conducting these drills is a waste of taxpayer resources. Governor Cuomo should be focusing the money on pressing issues that actually exist in our state.

  3. Although this is a good idea to help protect New York from Ebola, this is also a waste of money for New York. This money could be spent on better things that will actually improve the conditions in New York rather than waste this money on a public scare.

  4. Although this is a good way to help the people of New York in case of Ebola, this is also a bad way to use the tax payers money. This money could actually be spent on things to improve conditions in New York but instead is used on public scare.

  5. I think this is just a show that Cuomo is trying to present to voters. The drills are completely unnecessary, but convince unintelligible voters that the governor knows how to react to immediate (fictitious) problems.

  6. I also think this is a waste of taxpayers' money. The common cold is more contagious than Ebola (which is only transmitted through contact with bodily fluids) and there haven't even been any cases of Ebola in New York yet. All this panic is extremely unnecessary.

  7. Ebola is a concern, but nothing to panic about for now.Our airports are already screening for Ebola. However, there is always a chance that someone will get to New York. The chance is pretty small, but it is still possible. It is better to be informed and to know what to do when something happens, before it happens. Texas is already in a panic because a small number of people have it.We do not want the same thing to happen here. it is best we prepare and know what to do so we can be safe.
