Cuomo Rallies for Women's Issues

Governor Cuomo with his running mate Kathy Hochul rallied in Albany on Saturday with the focus on women's rights. During this rally he brings up issues like pay equity, abortion rights, human trafficking, sexual harassment and domestic violence. He says “I am not going to leave this earth until this state makes the statement that my three daughters are equal to any three boys anywhere.” Cuomo also raises up that his opponent, Rob Astorino, is against abortion. However, Astorino raised the issue of Cuomo overlooking Sheldon Silver's complaints of sexual harassment in Albany. Astorino says “It’s ironic that Andrew Cuomo is going around the state on a bus tour when he should have been leading Sheldon Silver to prosecutors for covering up sex crimes in the Assembly,” Mr. Astorino said in an interview on Friday. “When Sheldon Silver needed a lifeline, the one person that threw it to him was Andrew Cuomo.”
Is this rally just a ploy to distract voters from more pressing issues?

  1. I don't think the rally is being used as a distraction. Cuomo and Hochul are bringing up important issues that they believe in that could sway the voters in their favor

  2. I don't think that this rally is a ploy because if it was then the Governor would not make such a big issue about Women's rights. Women's rights is an important part of this election because it has to do with abortion. Astorino is firmly against abortion and has taken the help of the republican Texas governor who helped to close down many abortion clinics in Texas. So the topic of abortion should arise multiple times with the topic of Women's rights. Also this rally is a way that the Governor can get his points across for the up coming election, so it is very important to him. Thus he needs to focus more on this, and I do not believe that is is a ploy.

  3. I agree with Romil and Daniella, they seem to be focusing on important issues that appeal to women and parents. Its important to me to know that Rob Astorino is against abortion because if I were of age to vote in this election, my vote would definitely lean towards Cuomo. Astorino must stop trying to slander and bring down Cuomo and focus on improving his own campaign

  4. I think that Cuomo is probably genuinely in favor of women's rights. As a man with three daughters he must of experienced at some point inequality through his daughters. This must give him more of a personal stance on the issue rather than just an ideological one.
