Mitt Romney blasts Cuomo in harsh fundraising letter

It is less than a month away from Election Day, and Governor Cuomo is still making strides to make sure that he wins his re-election by a landslide. However, the most recent Quinnipiac poll shows that Cuomo is just 20 percent ahead of the race, which is considered to be a close call between him and Rob Astorino. The poll also shows that Democrats within New York State do not favor Cuomo, and strong Republicans such as Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush are encouraging Republicans in New York State to vote for Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. Mitt Romney stated in his fundraising letter that, “The unfortunate truth is New York has the highest taxes in America. The state has the worst economic outlook in the country, and since Gov. Cuomo took office, 400,000 people have relocated to states offering more opportunity,’’ and endorses Astorino by saying that “He was twice elected [executive] in Democratic Westchester County because he effectively governs in a bipartisan way.”

Although there is not much else to do now, Cuomo has to emphasize his accomplishments and effectiveness during his tenure as Governor. However, it really depends on how Cuomo's efforts to appeal more to the voters in this last leg of the race to see if he may or may not lose his reelection by a landslide. If anything, the race will end very closely between the two candidates.

  1. I am surprised that the poll shows that Cuomo is not holding a huge lead over Astorino. Judging from the many articles showing Cuomo's actions and his views, Astorino has been fairly quiet in advertisement and publicity. However, what Romney says is true; New Yorkers nowadays are moving to states due to rising costs of living and scarcity of economic opportunities. But if Rob Astorino comes in office I wonder how he would govern New York differently than Cuomo.

  2. There aren't that many republican in New York State so Astorino wouldn't get many votes from them. Not to mention the fact that Mitt Romney is seen as an ultraconservative here which would push away any of the conservative democrats that might be considering voting for Astorino. I don't think Mitt Romney's support would help much.

  3. I don't see Rob Astorino winning this election possible, especially in the state of New York. Although it may be close, Cuomo has the experience and party support that he needs to win the election.
